September 3: In the morning, I had a neuroscience tutorial. I got some pasta at the Courtyard Cafe for lunch and went to the lab, where I luckily finished pretty quickly. One problem, though: I found out we need to assign groups for a poster presentation soon, but when I asked the people I know in the lab about it today, they said they'd already made arrangements with someone... Chisa went to ask if a group of three would be okay. I really hope so, otherwise I'll have to wander around the lab like a lost child, asking random people if they've already made arrangements. There's someone else who has the lab with me on Friday, so maybe she can? After the lab, I did some pharmacology preparation and went back to SUMS rehearsal.
September 4: Today's pharmacology tutorial was an assignment we had to complete on-site with our group and then hand in for assessment. It went pretty well! One of the group didn't put in much effort, which was a bit disappointing. During the break, I got something to eat with a few of the group (we hadn't had breakfast yet), and it was a delicious spinach pie. In the evening, I went to the Spoken Word Night at the Verge Gallery, a small gallery where student artwork was exhibited. Three students read their work to us (a small group of 15 people). I ran into Isabelle by chance, which was fun! I also met a new person, Michelle; she recommended two Dutch restaurants. A quick search on Google Maps and sure enough, they have Dutch brands there. It's a bit further away, so I'll have to check if I want to go there or not. I went home and quickly ate my soup so I could quickly go to the event Cynthia, Cailene, Sunny, and Angela were at: drag bingo at Manning Bar! I managed to catch a round of bingo, but unfortunately, I didn't win, but it was nice to see them again, since it had already been over a week :(
September 5: Today's lab was column chromatography, which always stresses me out a bit. I worked mostly alone today; the person next to me in the fume hood was working on another experiment. I found someone I know who doesn't have anyone for the poster presentation yet! Yay! My experiment went fine otherwise; I finished a bit early and helped others clean up a bit. Afterward, I went to a live music event at Holme Bar—somewhat quirky music, but still fun! Cailene and Cynthia were there too. I also saw someone from the introduction week and had a quick chat. Oh, and the organizer/staff member was the same one from Spoken Word Night and recognized me. Apparently, she studied in Amsterdam, what a coincidence. I had an internship interview at home, but my Wi-Fi kept cutting out or something, so that wasn't ideal. The project itself seems a bit less interesting. After that, I worked on my lab report for Beyond the Genome and submitted it.
