Arrived at my house by shuttle bus! I got the key from the locker and was able to enter (I was glad my room wasn't a scam). Dragging my suitcase up the narrow stairs was a lot of fun, but luckily I managed it without too much noise (it was around 8 a.m.…). Then I quickly fixed the Wi-Fi, because 5 euros per MB didn't seem like a very nice deal.
Room location (jumping arrow): ten minutes walk from campus (stationary arrow), fifteen minutes to Central Station.
A little later, I went to the post office to pick up my SIM card. Along the way, I came across all sorts of plants I recognized from the houseplant department at Leurs, which I liked :). Walking on the left is still taking some getting used to, especially since so many tourists also walk on the right.
After fiddling around with my SIM card, I did some grocery shopping at Coles and Kmart in Broadway Shopping Center, which is only a few minutes' walk away. That supermarket is a bit bigger than what I'm used to in Nijmegen. It's also taking some getting used to the AUD-to-euro exchange rate (1 AUD = 0.58 euros). I bought Tim-Tams there, which I'd heard a lot of good things about (and rightly so!). I spotted a small Dutch section in the supermarket and didn't recognize half of them as "typically Dutch."
I called home; they'd already been to bed twice, and I hadn't (I don't count the flight, because I barely slept, maybe two hours per flight). Well, I was pretty tired. So I thought, I'd just sleep for half an hour and then get up again, because I wanted to minimize jet lag. Mission failed, I didn't get my alarm clock, so I woke up three hours later. I ended up making it through the evening and went to bed around my usual bedtime.
