Hobbiton and caves..

From Auckland, we took a day trip to see glowworm caves and Hobbiton, where parts of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (by Tolkien) were filmed. We first took the bus to Glowworm Caves.

You had to go into the caves by boat. And in the darkness, thousands of glowworms sat on the ceiling.

Then we went to Hobbiton, booked weeks in advance. The village was built specifically for the film, in the rolling hills of the countryside, far from civilization.
