Sunny's birthday at Bondi Beach

The original plan for today was to go on a Bushwalker Society walking trip, but apparently I didn't set an alarm yesterday, so that was a failure. But it did mean I had time to bake a cake for Sunny's birthday! Cailene had asked in the group chat what everyone's favorite food flavors were, and Sunny said chocolate and coffee, so we were actually planning on finding an excuse for the two of us to pop to the supermarket for a cake after the hike. But since I wasn't going on the hike anyway, that was my afternoon: figuring out the chocolate/coffee cake recipe, shopping for groceries, and baking the cake (and really hoping it tasted good).

In the evening, we reunited and got fish and chips somewhere near Bondi Beach and took them to the beach. We sat on a picnic blanket in the dark with some phone flashlights and enjoyed a delicious meal. Every now and then a tractor would pass by, sweeping the sand flat, and it would look at us with a look of, "What are you doing on the beach in the dark?" Of course, we also went for a dip, and the sea turned out to be warmer than the sand. Oh, and when you ran in the sand, you could hear it crunching—a funny sound. At one point, I heard the others saying there were so many stars, but when I looked up, I actually thought there weren't many. I think it's quite different from large (illuminated) American cities and Dutch towns/villages.

When Cynthia took Sunny to the beach again, we stayed by the picnic blanket and set up everything for the cake. Lighting the candles wasn't easy due to the strong wind, but Sunny managed to blow out one candle. She was thrilled with the surprise, and the cake was a success.

Afterward, we all spent some time on the bus, as Bondi Beach isn't around the corner. We had a great evening!
