Officially the start of the semester! Had my first lectures, mostly an introductory talk for each course. The lecture halls are a little different; there are fold-out tables, fixed tables, and hockey locker room-like benches. The layout varies considerably from lecture hall to lecture hall. The rooms were rather empty, but only twenty people attended my first lecture, while at least a hundred were taking the course (you at least attend the first lecture to see if you can skip the rest, right?). I had some minor struggles finding a room for my second lecture, but luckily I made it in time.
Welcome Fest was in full swing. All of Eastern Avenue (pretty much the main street of campus, with many college buildings, the library, etc.) was lined with stalls for all the clubs and societies, and there are plenty! There are clubs for everything from academic fields to sports, art, other hobbies, Taylor Swift, chocolate, land, and much more. Many also have free registration, or sometimes a five-dollar fee. Nicely organized! There were also "promotional stalls" for delivery services, travel booking agencies, activity organizations, nightclubs in the city, surfing lessons (I bought a surf lesson ticket for Bondi, looking forward to it), etc. We got all sorts of freebies. My friends and I stood in line for far too long for a free hot dog, but luckily it was fun.
