This website or blog is to record my time in Sydney (and any travels?), to share with family/friends and look back on later : )
I am studying at the University of Groningen from August to December 2025 University of Sydney “USYD”. The courses I take are: Chemical Biology, Applied Neuroscience, Pharmacology for Pharmacy and Beyond the Genome.
The preparation was quite a bit of work, from registering, enrolling, applying for a visa, coordinating courses here and there to insurance matters, housing and banking!
But I did it: I'm in Australia!

TECHNOLOGY
The carmendownunder The site is built in WordPress, with various plugins to enhance it, such as Blocksy and Mapster.
This site is in Dutch and uses TranslatePress and the Google Translate API for automatic translation. You can click the English flag on the site, and the site will be automatically translated. The translation will be saved for future visitors.
For the technicians: The site is hosted on Arthur's HP thin client. He was able to snag the domain carmendownunder.nl for €0.01. That was a steal! 🙂
The site runs in a container under Proxmox, on top of Linux Debian. CrowdSec protects the site against thousands (!) of attacks per day. The site has a full daily backup.
